The concept of A Little R&R – Acoustic Duo began in 2021 when Renee and Robert Thrash were on a road trip, listening to songs on Pandora. It was common for them to sing along with songs. On that special day, it suddenly occurred to Robert that there was a beautiful tone to Renee’s voice, and that her pitch was right on with every note. How did he miss this until now? At that point, he said to Renee, “We need to do something with that!” Soon afterward, they began working up a small set of songs that grew over time. Once they had enough songs down, they slowly began singing at a few local venues and private parties and things began to blossom from there!
A Little R&R keeps things simple, with Robert on acoustic guitar and both of them exchanging lead vocals and harmonies. Robert had been in several different bands over the years and was in a band at the time of A Little R&R’s conception. He was already comfortable performing on stage in front of a lot of people. However, the first few times that Renee sang on stage, she shook like a leaf on a tree! It didn’t take long for her to get past the nervousness and she was raring to go at each show! Renee and Robert love doing what they do and it shows in the way they keep things fun on stage while engaging with their audience.
Renee sang in her Jr high and high school choir and always had a deep love for music of many genres. You might even catch her dancing to the background music in the aisles of a department store! Earlier in life, she never had the opportunity to be a professional singer, nor did she imagine that she would be one someday. But she's a natural at it. Her tone is rich and full, she sings with real soul and she moves with the music she's singing. Her daughter, Leah, is also a professional singer and drummer who performs with her husband Tim as a duo and occasionally with bands.
Robert got his first guitar at age 10 and a drum set at age 11. Primarily self-taught, he picked up chords and songs from friends. One of his early influences was Creedence Clearwater Revival. He later studied jazz guitar with 3 different teachers, most notably the late Warren Nunes, who accompanied many famous jazz singers. Robert has played guitar, bass and sang with several cover bands at many venues, including county fairs and the California State Fair. He has performed classic rock, jazz, country, blues, pop, R&B, reggae and other genres with various cover bands.
9/19/2026: We enjoyed performing at the Heart of the Hills Farmers Market in Kerrville today! During a short break, we bought a loaf of sourdough bread and sampled some smoked brisket. That was honestly the best brisket we've ever had! By the way, the market put us on a monthly rotation!
9/5/2026: A Little R&R will be one of three musical groups to perform at the Helotes Market Days in Old Town Helotes.
6/29/2026: We picked up a gig at a new location. We'll be performing at the Schertz Hometown Harvest on August 1.
6/11/2026: We're looking forward to our first gig in Kerville this Saturday (June 13), from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Heart of the Hills Farmers Market. Then, on June 20, We'll be singing at Blanco Market Day for the first time from 11 AM to 2 PM.
4/18/2026: Erich from The Radio Stars band asked us to provide backing vocals for his show at the San Antonio Fiesta Film Festival. It was cold, windy and intermittently sprinkling but it went well and we had a lot of fun! Thanks Erich.
